Seriously, MACS does exactly what you're asking. You write a fairly
simple method adapter and viola! MACS can now auth against
sourceforge. Another and viola! MACS can now auth against cvs.
Another and ... well, you get the idea. These adapters are pretty easy
to whip up, too. See lib/MACS/LMA/Yahoo.pm for an example of how to
build these into the server. They can also exist independently of the
server, comm'ing via pipes or sockets.
I'd write another long speech about MACS, but I've got to run and get
some stuff ready for 0.8...
