The home folder only contains a folder called "chris" at the moment

There are no errors when backing up but only 1 file is shown as being
backed up and list-current-files shows none as backed up.

If I change the source to /home/chris then it works! Am I doing
something wrong?

Is /home a symlink perhaps? If so you're asking duplicity to backup a
single symlink in the former case, while in the latter case you'll be
asking to backup your actual home directory.

(Not that I know off hand that duplicity is supposed to handle a
non-directory to begin with, but the above seems like a likely
senario).
