BTW, how much did you pay for it?

I paid ~$165 last fall -- bare drive only plus driver CD.

Oh, I _did_ find a 4G DVD-RAM for ~$200 after rebate recently.

But most sell around the same price as Sony's DRU-500A 3G DVD+RW drive,
~$300.
