Both the doc string of `set-goal-column' (`C-x C-n') and its doc in the
Emacs manual should state more clearly that the effect is only for the
current buffer.  For a user to find this out (besides experimenting),
s?he would need to click the link for the variable `goal-column'
referred to in the doc for the command.  The information is there, but
it could be more clear and direct.


In GNU Emacs 24.5.1 (i686-pc-mingw32)
 of 2015-04-11 on LEG570
Windowing system distributor `Microsoft Corp.', version 6.1.7601
Configured using:
 `configure --prefix=/c/usr --host=i686-pc-mingw32'
