It will prevent future `standard' additions to c-mode-abbrev-table
to be ignored.  

Another option would be if the standard bindings were in another
variable in cc-mode, e.g. c-mode-abbrev-table-default, which is
selectively (only the non-existing entries) copied to
c-mode-abbrev-table when cc-mode is activated.
