No, it breaks when 21.2.50 suddenly becomes 21.3.50 ;-)

Jokes aside, I agree with whomever (I think it was you) proposed a
scheme like:
21.1.1 From HEAD
21.1.2 1st bugfix release
21.1.3 2nd " "
etc.
21.2.1 From HEAD
21.2.2 1st bugfix release
etc.
22.1.1 From HEAD (new major release)
and 21.2.1.YYYYMMDD or 21.1.50, etc for pretests (I favor the YYYYMMDD
format because it is visually distinctive).
No offense intended, but jumping to 22.X, 23.X, etc too fast would make
me feel like we´re on a race against XEmacs ;-)
