Is there a good reason why we only look for xpm and pbm icons in
toolbar.el?
I'd like to add at least png, so users can drop icons from Gnome etc
in and have them work. But unless it causes a major slowdown, I see
no reason why we should not accept any supported image format for the
toolbar icons.
