This proposal still does not address the constant confusion (just look
at the mailing lists) about the unclear numbering of the CVS version;
IMO, the cvs version and pretests should use THE SAME minor number as
the final release -- not the minor number of previous release.
What about:
CVS version: 22.1.-999
Pretests: 22.1.-998 ... 22.1.-1
Initial release: 22.1
Bug fixes: 22.2, 22.3, ...
Minor releases = bug fix
This also allows us to have a "working" version in CVS for bug fixes /
minor releases, e.g.
22.2.-999
and run pretests for minor releases, e.g.
22.2.-998
