    I'm not sure that was a good idea, since comments normally have a face
    that makes them stand out.  I thought that several people complained
    about ^L being too glaring.

Yes, we do not want this font to call too much attention to itself.
It should be just different enough from the usual color that you can
easily tell the difference.
