Just a friendly reminder that MH-E runs on Emacs 20 and 21 too. While I
do not expect Emacs developers to write macros such as the following to
provide compatibility, the MH-E team would greatly appreciate it if
Emacs developers kept our requirements in mind. If it's easy for you to
try your changes on Emacs 21, please do. If you find or even think
you're using a new feature of Emacs in MH-E, then sending me or
address@hidden a quick note would be great.

Fortunately the compiler alerted me to the problem created by the above
check-in, but that might not always be the case.

  (defmacro mh-display-completion-list-compat (word choices)
    "Completes WORD from CHOICES using `display-completion-list'.
  Calls `display-completion-list' correctly in older environments.
  Versions of Emacs prior to version 22 lacked a COMMON-SUBSTRING argument
  which is used to highlight the next possible character you can enter
  in the current list of completions."
    (if (>= emacs-major-version 22)
        `(display-completion-list (all-completions ,word ,choices) ,word)
      `(display-completion-list (all-completions ,word ,choices))))

p.s. The MH-E developers really appreciate the Emacs developer's help in
getting MH-E up to current Emacs conventions.
