Yeah. Or "bound-value".
Emacs is full of slightly bizarre function names, typically where the
original creator only thought of one particular special usage (and named
the function accordingly) but the actual users turned out to treat it
more generally.
Luckily we've got "defalias" to make renaming less painful...
