make bootstrap process

Sorry I am not that familiar with the bootstrap proces, but am learning.

Is there any way to get "make bootstrap" to continue from where it was or just 
before a directory before it or something that will keep if from starting over 
from nearly or the beginneing. For example after an hour or more of grinding 
away and an error o
ccurs.  Can this be corrected without having ino
