I am not sure, but I may try asking them... unless somebody who knows

Sourceforge lists the following people as developers: Barry A. Warsaw,
Edward Loper, Kurt B. Kaiser, Ken Manheimer and Skip Montanaro.

Well, that's certainly true -- at least at the moment...

Also, it might be worthwhile to help distinguishing the modes at least
by having different indicator in the modeline -- currently both use
"Python" so it is even nontrivial for users to determine which one are
they actually running...

Does Emacs have any guidelines as to how modeline indicator should
look like? Is there something we could use instead of "Python"?
"Python-Mode"? "PYTHON"? "python"? Something else?
