Again: when will it be available?  How many KLOCs wand man-years will be
necessary to get this into Subversion, when it has been one of the early
features of pretty much every other competitor?

Compare the complexity of the above design document to the simplicity of the
solutions used in DaRCS and Arch (for example).  It makes you cry.
