Hi Kenichi,

Please try to comment out the following line in your .emacs:

(set-selection-coding-system 'utf-8)

Doesn't it fix the problem?

O yes, it does! A little problem remains, however.
Although I can see the nine Polish letters as they
should look, one of them, lslash, has a different code
than it should. Please, have a look at the little screen
shot enclosed to this letter and at what Emacs reports
about the two characters.

Many thanks to Richard and to You for so quick response.

Rysiek

For the proper Polish lslash, typed into Emacs, the editor
reports:

  character: ł (331874, #o1210142, #x51062, U+0142)
    charset: mule-unicode-0100-24ff
(Unicode characters of the range U+0100..U+24FF.)
 code point: #x20 #x62
     syntax: w which means: word
   category: l:Latin
buffer code: #x9C #xF4 #xA0 #xE2
file code: #xC5 #x82 (encoded by coding system utf-8)
display: by this font (glyph code)
     -Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--15-140-75-75-C-90-ISO10646-1 (#x142)

For the character similar to our lslash Emacs reports:

  character: ł (70825, #o212251, #x114a9, U+0142)
charset: korean-ksc5601 (KSC5601 Korean Hangul and Hanja: ISO-IR-149.)
 code point: #x29 #x29
     syntax: _ which means: symbol
   category: h:Korean
buffer code: #x93 #xA9 #xA9
file code: #xC5 #x82 (encoded by coding system utf-8)
display: by this font (glyph code)
