Right, cp -u is only working locally but I also had ssh and ftp
connections in mind.  It would be fantastic when dired had such a
transparent handling of files and directories.

I also forgot to mention that the problem of updating subdirectories
can be somewhat mitigated when one includes the subdirectories with
the i switch into the respective dired buffers, but it's still a pain
in the ...
