   printing code, I guess Emacs would automatically use the right program.

how about emacs talking IPP[0] rfc3380[1] and rfc3998[2] directly?
would be nice to can get it all into emacs lisp where things are more
fluid and fun.  have socket, will spew...

in this way, we need not search for the right program because the right
program is emacs.
