There is no "right answer", but I think it will not be terribly hard
to find a good enough answer.  The point is stop arguing about it
theoretically.  Experiment, try various conditions, and see what gives
good results.

I think it is a matter of having sufficient contrast between foreground
and background.  If that is so, the face name can be displayed in
the face itself.
