Yes, it's legal.  But it's wrong by common usage.  Googling:

  about 6,640,000 for nonexistent
  about 773,000 for inexistent

That's a factor of nearly 10 there.  (And yes, I know those are actually
approximations, but the same bias factors out of both sides.)

The point is to use familiar words when you can.
