"dired-warning face not colored on 8-color ttys" first raised 2007-08-30 on bug-gnu-emacs.Thought your font-lock-warning-face solution was good.
The first feedback I got on this ;-) BTW, the OP suggested to change this for other faces inheriting from font-lock-comment-face as well. Does anyone know a face where this would be useful?
