Is it a new problem?  Doesn't it happen with Emacs 22?

This is a new problem and it does not happen with GNU Emacsen 22.1.50
and 23.0.50.

Please show me the result of M-x describe-face RET default RET.


I seem to be unable to reproduce this! I'll check the eMails I've sent to find the original configuration (upon recommendation from a third side I changed GCC optimisation flags and then I also simplified a few *FLAG values). Maybe a 'make bootstrap' or maximal optimisation are needed – or both!
