the speculation is accurate in my case, and i know several other
python coders who retain copies of python-mode.el, if only for pdb
tracking.  unfortunately, besides this particular feature, i can't
tell you what else i'm missing and getting from python-mode.el versus
python.el.

aargh!  why would you say that?  being someone who likes using emacs
and python coding, i'm hoping that attitude doesn't mean we settle for
less than we ought for coding python with emacs!
