I have set erc-auto-query to 'bury but it still pops up a buffer in
some window whenever I get a private message. The only value that
seems to make a difference is nil, which isn't what I want.

In GNU Emacs 23.0.60.2 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, X toolkit)
 of 2008-02-15 on pod
Windowing system distributor `The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.10300000
configured using `configure '--with-xft' '--enable-font-backend'
'--without-toolkit-scroll-bars' '--with-x-toolkit=lucid'
'--prefix=/opt''
