When checking in a file, e.g., with C-x v v the message:

   Checking in myfile.c

appears in the minibuffer and Emacs waits for the subprocess to terminate
then "...done" is added to the message.  During this time Emacs displays
an hourglass to show that it's not ready for further input.

When checking out a file, with C-x v ~ the message:

 Checking out myfile.c

likewise appears in the minibuffer and Emacs waits for the subprocess to
terminate.  However, in this case, no hourglass appears, so it's not clear that
further input can't be entered immediately.
