Failure in bootstrapping Emacs-CVS on Kubuntu

This happens on GNU/Linux Kubuntu 7.10 with Emacs-CVS 23.0.60 of few 
minutes ago.

It looks as if this change (the only recent one affecting byte-opt.el):
