Slow screen updating with Emacs 23 on w32

The screen update is very slow on w32 with current CVS Emacs 23. Is thatdue to the new font handling?

I got crashes before, but I have not got any crashes now. However Ichanged configure to use

configure --with-gcc --no-opt --cflags -Ic:/g/include --cflags-fno-crossjumping


Does that perhaps make Emacs very slow?
