I can not reproduce it here.
`src/emacs -q -nbc' and `src/emacs -q -nbc -nw' now succeed; the
problem was fixed in CVS sometime after 16:24 UTC on Monday, 17 March
2008 when I previously updated and it failed.
However, in the current CVS Emacs, the frame of `src/emacs -q -nbc'
becomes narrower, but not shorter, when I run `o' on a Dired buffer
with a .jpg image in it. Emacs reports a width of 78 characters
rather than 80.
Also (as happened earlier, but then the failure stopped), the
*Messages* buffer reports that
mouse-set-font: Font not found
when I try to set the frame to an "10x20" font.
Even though
("10x20" "-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--20-*-*-*-c-100-iso8859-1" "10x20")
is in the current /usr/local/src/emacs/lisp/mouse.el
`S-down-mouse-1' (mouse-set-font) fails although the following succeed:
rxvt -fn "-Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--20-200-75-75-C-100-ISO8859-1" -cr black
xterm -fn "-Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--20-200-75-75-C-100-ISO8859-1" -ah
xlsfonts -fn "-Misc-Fixed-Medium-R-Normal--20-200-75-75-C-100-ISO8859-1"
Today's GNU Emacs CVS snapshot, Tue, 2008 Mar 18 10:15 UTC
GNU Emacs 23.0.60.26 (i686-pc-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 2.12.5)
started in an RXVT shell with
src/emacs -q -nbc
and
src/emacs -q -nbc -nw
