    Well, no, I think it is not.  AFAIK only one of "iso-8859-1" and
    "iso8859-1" is registered, but Emacs uses the former exclusively, and
    X11 only the latter (in XLFDs).

I think it would be better if Emacs accepted either form, if specified.
