With font-lock-mode (in c-mode) enabled, the difference is even larger:

About 2.5 seconds in Emacs 22, and more than 7 seconds in 23/NS.

Is my macbook too fast? With font-lock-mode enabled (23/NS), page
scrolling in buffer emacs.c responds nearly instantly. I see no delay
at all.

I can't see a delay when scrolling just one page. The above figures are for scrolling page-wise through the whole buffer.

I've tried building with -O9 and tune settings for the CPU - this doesn't see to do much.
