This is about the _default value_.  You have changed the default value.

What's new is that you have changed the *default value*.

Sorry to say it this way, but that is a complete cop-out. 

This is about the DEFAULT VALUE. This is not about the ease of customizing.

The default value should be nil. Except, if you insist, in specific buffers
where (some) users might find it useful - for example, text-mode buffers.
