The problem is that people just don't do that when faced with several
options.  They pick the best features of each and expect the
application to provide all of them.  Or they don't like something so
they tweak it.  Then they get confused.

On the other hand, how many VCS transitions have you managed for
Emacs-sized projects?  I've done two so far.  I can say from
experience the cost of support is not polynomial in extra workflows
during the transition.
