Motif

    I do not know what the motif default should be.  Or even whether anyone 
    still uses it.

It would be good to find out.  We could put in something in configure.in
so that building with Motif requires some special option to confirm.
If you don't specify that option, it would print an error message
asking people to email us to tell us they are still building with Motif,
and to try again with that option,
