Pasting
the language is called לשון־אַשכּנז (loshn-ashkenaz
with bidi-display-reordering unset, I get
and with it being set, I get
As you can see, the aleph is composed with the "a" vowel underneath, and
the kaph gets a dagesh.
So there clearly happens some composition. Whether GTK+ is involved, I
have no idea.
