        Thanks. That did work; and I think that ought to be the default
 if we detect that the window-system is X, but I am content now that I
 know how to get things working as I wanted.

        I still find the doc string of select-active-regions to be
 unclear, since I am not sure when "deactivate-mark" happens, and I
 suspect most users would also not know. Could the documentation be
 clarified as to what the user visible changes that setting it to 'lazy vs
 setting it to t are?
