Actually, you may need that. Setting a correct window type is enough to
not have the window manager decorating the window.

I clearly had the same (kind of) idea as you have about creating an
Emacs based DE. To me what was missing was the possibility to make a
panel, this is why I've started my strut-dock branch. :)
