I'm not sure.  But Emacs from trunk works well on my machine:

  In GNU Emacs 24.3.50.1 (x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu, GTK+ Version 3.8.4)
   of 2013-11-10 on xfq-Inspiron-5437
  Bzr revision: 115052 address@hidden
  Windowing system distributor `The X.Org Foundation', version 11.0.11403000
  System Description: Ubuntu 13.10

I used `apt-get build-dep emacs24', but `emacs24' is only on jessie and
sid now...
