Eli's response was exactly the kind of information I was hoping to
elicit, yes.

I also agree that a vote from someone like Eli should somehow count more
than a vote from (say) me.  But even adjusting for that, the total vote
weight in favor of switching to git is still pretty clear in this
thread, as others have noted.
