Yes, there's also some term conflation going on: "automatic completion" 
in company-minimum-prefix-length docstring is not the same thing as 
"auto-complete" in company-auto-complete docstring.

I'll try to make it more clear. Unfortunately though, "idle completion" 
is a less familiar term than "auto-complete", to an average user.
