This version has simpler ignore file mapping along lines suggested by
Paul Eggert.  It has had gc applied, and bulks only 329272K with
checkout. 

The Aquamacs branch is not yet grafted in.  I have received no other
branch graft requests.

The conversion procedure is now stable and final, unless someone finds
a bug or generates a new requirement.  Full rebuild takes about ten
hours.
