    Any editing at all.  The image is a visualization, you cannot edit that.
    It is output, not input.

I think we are miscommunicating here.  Could you answer in a less
terse way?

Is the idea that the user goes on editing, and the overlay images
stick around even if they become invalid, and the user knows
to ignore them?
