There's nothing wrong with things like secure boot systems provided
they're fully under the control of the user. Yes, the same technology
has multiple uses, both pro and anti freedom, but that's true of all
sorts of things, including computers in general.

(I'll point out that given that the NSA "Ant Catalog" includes a
bunch of BIOS-inserted malware and other load-time infection
techniques. Secure booting is actually a priority for ordinary
people. The trick is to make sure it isn't used as an instrument to
prevent ordinary people from booting software of their choice, but
rather is used as an instrument to assure that when they boot the
software of their choice, they're actually getting that and not
malware. Again, you can use most technologies multiple ways.)
