The infloop is due to this:

(file-symlink-p (expand-file-name "zot/" "/tmp/foo2/"))
=> nil

(file-symlink-p (expand-file-name "zot" "/tmp/foo2/"))
=> "/tmp/"

I'll check in a fix.
