Just a quick note - most of the important `s.el` functions are available in Emacs 24.4 (in `subr-x.el`).
As for `dash.el` - Emacs 25 will bundle a new sequence library (`seq.el`), which will decrease the need forĀ 
dash substantially. The new lib is already available in GNU ELPA.
