What do you mean by "the buffer" here?

It would be good to have the possibility of autoscaling, IMO,
and even autoscaling of one sort or another by default.

It might be better to (by default) autoscale an image to fit
the return value of one of the `window*pixel-width' functions,
rather than the width of the buffer text.  That would mean
that widening or narrowing the window would zoom the image
accordingly.

But it would also be good for this to be controlled by users
(e.g., by option or on the fly somehow).  You might sometimes
want to zoom into the text and image without also widening
the window, etc.
