We have never tried to people from running nonfree programs.
You seem to be attacking something that didn't come from us.

We are happy to accept contributions from BSD users -- I am sure you
have seen this -- and BSD is sufficiently similar to GNU that it
should not be an impediment in practice.

It is simply a matter of whether you wish to contribute.
