I'm pretty sure the current core maintainers don't know Haskell, or Rust, or any other modern "hipster" language, to the extent a rewrite would require. Probably not everyone knows Common Lisp either.
So any volunteers to do the rewrite and then maintain the resulting codebase, should please step up.
