problem with gdb / gud

Hi Devs --

I recently built Emacs 24.5.1, and was using gdb 7.9.1 with python extensions.

When I begin a gdb session and run the 'pi' command (which puts gdb in
python interpreter mode), there's a problem with '-interpreter-exec
console xxx' -- SyntaxError.

Does anyone have advice for a (quick) fix or can point me to a release
without this issue?
