This commit: 44c588a25ce231ce05fb535cd6d7162e91214f45 (Port recent autogen.sh changes to Darwin) breaks the build on macOS: 

./autogen.sh

Interfering nt/gnulib.mk from lib/gnulib.mk ...
sed: 46: "This is of m...": command c expects \ followed by text

and the 'configure' is not created...
