Which here switches from DejaVu Sans Mono to DejaVu Serif when I enable
variable-pitch-mode.

My (custom-set-faces) call in includes:

  '(variable-pitch ((t (:family "DejaVu Serif"))))

I only get that when I enable variable-pitch-mode in a buffer, and
it only affects that/those buffer(s).

I'll test it out.

But as I wrote yesterday, I've gotten used to the current look.
