It was necessary to do work to fix the problem for dash.
Now it is necessary to do work to fix the problem for Magit.

We can optimize some aspects of the work, and we're working on that.
(Thanks for helping to do this.)  But I can't envision any more
scalable way of doing the work that we don't optimize away.

A more long-term approach is to prevent other projects from getting
into the same situation.  So I've taken up that issue.
